外語是人生成功的一個重要工具。從曾經的「學會數理化，走遍天下都不怕」，到現在21世紀的人才必要的兩項「本領」和基本素質———外語能力和電腦技能，外語的重要性日益凸顯；進一步深入和經濟發展的全球化，使外語尤其是已成為一種國際語言的英語的重要性日益突出。
