葉劉淑儀與讀者分享學習、運用英語的心得。本書分為〈時事短評〉及〈政論英語〉兩部份。第一部份，從外國報章雜誌選取精闢的文章、時事評論，從中講解英語片語、成語及典故的運用，並觸及英語背後的文化背景與底蘊，而非隻是文法分析。第二部份的評論文章，主要圍繞國際關係，如英國脫歐、中美貿易戰，也有論及香港政局，並從每篇文章中精選字詞文句，加以解讀分析，故讀者閱讀本書文章時，除瞭可瞭解葉劉淑儀對時事的看法，也可從中學習寫作技巧，一舉兩得。

作者簡介
葉劉淑儀（Regina Ip）
1972年畢業於香港大學英文係，獲一級榮譽學士學位。她求知若渴，分彆在不同的人生階段修讀瞭三個碩士學位課程：格拉斯哥大學文學碩士（主修文藝復興時期詩歌）、史丹福大學史隆管理課程碩士和史丹福大學東亞研究文學碩士。她在1975年加入香港政府，其後晉升至保安局局長，於2003 年離職。她從美國進修迴港後，在2006年7月成立「匯賢智庫」，2008年9月當選第四屆立法會直選議員，2012年及2016年成功連任，並於2012年及2017年獲委任為行政會議非官守成員。2011年1月，葉劉淑儀創立「新民黨」，並擔任黨主席。2015年9月，葉劉淑儀牽頭與21 世紀海上絲綢之路沿綫省市及海外華僑在港代錶團體閤作成立瞭「海上絲綢之路協會」。2012年及2017年，葉劉淑儀先後兩次參加行政長官選舉。
